The Programme:
As a Manufacturing Apprentice we are able to offer both a Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship and a Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship. We will work with you at the point of offer to determine which would be the best entry point for you.
The Level 2 Engineering Operative programme is a 12 month programme delivered on a day release basis with Yeovil College. You will attend college for one day per week to achieve a Level 2 Diploma, and will work in Thales Industry for the other week days.
The Level 3 Engineering Technician programme is a 36 month programme following a technical support pathway. You will attend Yeovil College for 3 days per week over your first year, and then 1 day per week for the remaining 2 years. The rest of the time you will be working within the Thales business. The final qualification will be a Level 3 Diploma.
There will be scope for those joining at Level 2 to progress onto the Level 3. This will be agreed on a case-by-case basis as per the circumstances of each learner.

This exciting apprenticeship will give you the skills and knowledge to be an effective Project Planning and Controls Apprentice within the Bid and Project Management Function at Thales. The apprentice programme will provide a strong understanding and working knowledge of planning, scheduling, monitoring and controls. The Bid and Project Management functions’ key responsibilities are to ensure strong governance over bids and projects and oversee the implementation of consistent and assured processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of the integrated master schedules for assigned projects.
- Contribute to project reports and attend associated reviews.
- Assist in the deployment & reporting of risk & opportunity management.
- Help the project team ensure correct and effective project governance is applied.
- Operate Thales mandated tools including Primavera, Smartcore and Risk X.
- To attend training as required and pass all examinations and continuous learning modules as specified by the course.
The Programme:
Through our higher apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand the Project Management Function from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
This is an 18 month apprenticeship delivered in partnership with our external partner Corndel and working towards the Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship. The programme is delivered via a blended delivery model including virtual workshops for each of the learning modules, and 1-2-1 coaching sessions with a dedicated skills coach every other week to underpin work based learning.
At the end of the programme you will have achieved the APM Project Management Qualification and you will be working as a Project Planner/Controller within the Project Management job family.

Systems Engineering Apprentice
Level 6 Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

The role will develop your engineering skills to become a confident, positive and flexible engineer with well-honed technical knowledge gained from the academic commitments, supporting the team to deliver systems and equipment solutions to deadlines and within budget, including participating in systems requirements and design work, project reviews, system test and possibly site and platform visits for surveys, installations or trials.

As a Systems Engineering Apprentice you will be enrolled onto the Level 6 Applied Professional Engineering Programme at Warwick University, following the Product Design and Development pathway. Delivered via a blended learning model, this programme combines the best of both with on campus delivery (6 block weeks per year) plus virtual coaching and online resources. The first two years on programme will be common across all pathways and will provide a broad engineering skill set including mechanical, electrical, electronic, materials and design, plus computational. In Year 3 and Year 4 learners will move to their specialist pathway. For the duration of this 4 year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our Systems function in Templecombe.

Hardware Engineer Apprentice
Level 6 Electro Mechanical Degree Apprenticeship

This exciting Hardware Apprentice role will develop your skills by the designing and implementation of the engineering solutions in accordance with programme and product requirements. Typical tasks will range from requirements management via the design and development cycle, to test, integration and validation of complex products and systems.
Degree Apprenticeship Programme:
Through our degree apprenticeship you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a Hardware Engineering Apprentice you will be studying towards a BEng in Electro-mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham.
Delivered over 5 years via a blended learning model, your study will combine on campus taught lectures, with online and work based learning. You can typically expect to study on campus for 4 weeks per academic year, delivered in 1 week blocks.
At the end of the programme, and following End Point Assessment you will have achieved a (fully funded) accredited BEng in Electro-mechanical Engineering, as well as a Level 6 Electro-mechanical Degree Apprenticeship qualification.
